The Sevier County Area Master Gardeners Association will be hosting
its third annual Flower and Garden Show & Sale on Saturday,
April 26, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Sevier County
Fairgrounds, 754 Old Knoxville Highway in Sevierville.
This special event is the primary fund-raiser for the non-profit
volunteer Master Gardeners group. During the past year they have
undertaken several community projects including landscaping at the
Kodak Public Library, Good Shepherd Mountain Hope Clinic in
Sevierville, Sevier County Senior Center and Chapman Highway
clean-up. In addition, members volunteer at local public schools and
at the Sevier County Boys and Girls Club to teach children the
basics of gardening. The Master Gardeners are required to attend 40
hours of classes and receive training through the University of
Tennessee Extension Office in Sevierville and are affiliated with
the Sevier County Extension Program. During the past year Sevier
County Area Master Gardeners completed over 3,000 volunteer hours,
reached or had contacts with over 4,000 people about gardening, and
drove over 20,000 miles doing projects in Sevier and surrounding
counties worth over $72,000 in contributions to the communities.
